Quercetin belongs to a group of plant pigments called flavonoids and imparts color to many fruits, flowers and vegetables. It has unique biological properties that may improve mental/physical performance and reduce infection risk. These properties form the basis for potential benefits to overall health and disease resistance, including anti-inflammatory, anti allergic, antiviral, antioxidant and psychostimulant activities. It’s one of the most abundant antioxidants in the diet. Antioxidants are compounds that can bind to and neutralize free radicals. Free radicals are unstable molecules that may cause cellular damage when their levels become too high. Damage caused by free radicals has been linked to numerous chronic conditions.

Quercetin, a plant pigment is a potent antioxidant flavonoid and more specifically a flavonol, found mostly in onions, grapes, berries, cherries, broccoli, and citrus fruits.

Vitamin C affects cells on the inside and outside of the body. The most prominent role of Vitamin C is its immune-stimulating effect, e.g., important for defence against infections such as common colds. It also acts as an inhibitor of histamine, a compound that is released during allergic reactions. As a powerful antioxidant, it can neutralize harmful free radicals, pollutants and toxins and facilitates the growth of the connective tissues which speeds up the process of wound healing. An adequate intake of Vitamin C is associated with a lower likelihood of a wrinkled appearance, dryness of the skin, and a better skin-aging appearance. It increases the oxidation of body fat, enhances metabolism, and thus aids in weight loss. It also helps to decrease total and LDL ( bad”) cholesterol and triglycerides.

Vitamin C, or ascorbic acid, is a water-soluble vitamin. This means that it dissolves in water and is delivered to the body’s tissues but is not well stored, so it must be taken daily through food or supplements.

Other ingredient, Zinc is an essential trace element found in cells throughout the body. In human beings, zinc (Zn) constitutes less than 0.005% of total body weight. It is needed for the body’s defensive (immune) system. Zinc has a key role as a catalyst in a wide range of reactions and is, in fact, a catalyst for about 100 enzymes. It is important in the structure of cell transport proteins such as vitamins A and D. Zinc regulates gene expression; stabilizes cell membranes, helping to strengthen their defense against oxidative stress; participates in the synthesis, storage, and release of insulin; interacts with platelets in blood clotting; and influences thyroid hormone function. It plays a role in cell division, cell growth, wound healing and the breakdown of carbohydrates. It is necessary for visual pigments; normal taste perception; sperm production; fetal development; and behavior and learning performance. Zinc is also needed for the senses of smell and taste. During pregnancy, infancy, and childhood the body needs zinc to grow and develop properly. Zinc also enhances the action of insulin.

Since it is not practical for most people to consume the required servings of fruits and vegetables needed on a consistent basis to fulfil the requirement of Vitamin C and Zinc, hence it is recommended to take a once-daily supplement which is safe, effective, and easy to do.
